Park Walks 2013

The Public Works Department will organize 16 guided Park Walks during the summer season in Finnish to the various parks of Helsinki. There will be beautiful flowers in our special parks during the peak blooming season and interesting stories about Helsinki’s parks. When Helsinki celebrates her birthday at 12th of June, six statues in the center of Helsinki can be seen alive in three performances! You can find the information about the walks here in Calendar.

In library near to you can be asked for a calendar booklet called Pääkaupunkiseudun luontoretket. There you’ll find information about all the free guided park walks and nature tours arranged in the whole capital region. These tours will take you even into the wildest nature.

Welcome to Himalayan balsam weeding this summer

 

Helsinki city and Helsinki´s local association for nature conservation (Helsy) welcome you to join and help us to eradicate an invasive plant species, Himalayan balsam, which has taken a strong foothold in some areas in Helsinki. Himalayan balsam competes with indigenous plant species by invading their growing space, especially along brooks and rivers. An effective way to stop the balsam from spreading further is to pull it from the ground before it produces seeds. We are organising 10 "balsam bashes" in Helsinki this summer in southern Lauttasaari 13th of June, 8th of August and 5th of September, in Saunalahti Bay in Herttoniemi 3rd of July, 3rd of August and 3rd of September, and Uutela nature park in Vuosaari 2nd of July, 23rd of July, 30th of July and 27th of August. Spring Cleaning Campaign

The traditional Spring cleaning campaign is about to begin. The campaign time is 16thof April to 25th of May. The time to register at Public Works Customer Service  is 2nd of April to 27th of April. Telephone number to the Customer Service is 09 310 39000, Mon- Thu at 8.15. am to 4 pm, Fri 9 am to 3 pm. They give you a contact person who brings you the equipment for cleaning and takes the trash away.

It is meant to clean such public green areas that are not otherwise in intensive care, such as roadsides, recreational forests, seashores and sides of walkingroutes. Collect only trash that does not belong to the nature.
